Mobile Email Still in its Infancy
Despite a US executive coach launching a 12-point ‘email addiction’ plan last week, it seems there’s no let-up in the drive to offer users ever-wider access to electronic communication.

It’s not that long ago that email was confined to the office. Then along came the RIM Blackberry, allowing users to access their email whilst out and about. Although the number of subscribers is relatively modest at 7m (of 2.5 billion mobile users), RIM – along with Nokia and Microsoft – aim to bring mobile email to the masses.

The latest Blackberry – the 8800 – even manages to pack in a full QWERTY keyboard, GPS, and a digital audio player. The only thing it lacks is an inbuilt camera as it’s an unpopular option amongst corporate buyers.

The Nokia N-series comes fully-loaded with gadgets too, although the company admit few users are currently making the most of the phone’s email capabilities.

The latest Microsoft handset software, Mobile 6, includes shortcuts to common applications, promising users a “much better and richer experience” when working with applications such as Microsoft Outlook.
