Home Thoughts from…?
Just been away for a short break to Dorset, a favourite part of the country. Although we’ve only spent 3 days away from home the experience opened our eyes to a whole new range of possibilities for the future – along with some potential frustrations of course.

Let’s deal with the frustrations first: things like endless email to trawl through upon returning home on Thursday morning. This email bombardment has really reached ridiculous proportions now and I’d be interested to hear how other people cope with it. Again, the 2 or 3 items that were genuinely important and required attention weren’t discovered until Friday. And again I wonder, what happened to all this ‘communication’ before we had email?

Secondly – as anyone who’s ever tried gambling with the weather by holidaying in the UK will recognize – we experienced the usual first day of fantastic sunshine and blue skies. An idyllic day spent lazing on the beach near Hengistbury Head. Followed by the second day of non-stop torrential rain and strong winds. A wet day in Bournemouth anyone? In fact, not just a ‘wet’ day but actually a record-breaking day of solid rain that saw a months-worth of water fall from the skies in the space of a day. I know I’ve said before that dodging the rain is an almost painful pleasure (part of the English Seaside Holiday experience) but this time it tried my patience to the limit.

Day three was an odd mix of the two: an otherwise fine day marred by periodic freezing winds coupled with a surprisingly (but I suppose necessary) stern warning from the lifeguard on Southbourne beach to keep the children and ourselves well away from the rough water.

Finally let me explain our reason for being there in the first place. Not just to soak up the sun…

We’re toying with the idea of re-locating to the South Coast. It’s an idea that has been brewing for a while now and with the close proximity of the coast and New Forest it’s beginning to look more and more tempting. If we can only do something about that weather…
