Sponsor Me for the London Triathlon
This Saturday I’m taking part in the London Triathlon as part of the Herbalife Team – I will be doing the 20km sprint cycle race to raise money for charity. My chosen charity is Cancer Research and I’m currently looking for sponsors.
It seemed like the perfect incentive to get fitter this year: last November a colleague asked me if I’d be interested in putting together a team of 3 to compete in the 2007 London Triathlon. My job would be to tackle the 20km cycle race. Throughout 2006 I’d neglected the regular cycling I usually do, so the prospect of a bike race offered the perfect opportunity to discipline myself into a routine of training.
So for the past few months I’ve been busy preparing for the event, either using an exercise bike, or getting out on the roads with the actual racing bike I’ll be using on the day. Gradually building up stamina and getting used to the pace.
Finding a decent bike to use involved quite a search. Although mountain bikes are permitted, they’re not really fast enough for serious racing. So a long search on Ebay eventually yielded a smart looking late 1980s ‘Team Banana’ bike in dazzling yellow. It’s super light weight, skinny tyres, and racing bars make it a streamlined and fast machine ideal for the race.
Next I had to choose a charity and find some sponsors. Most people know somebody who has been affected by cancer so I decided to donate my sponsorship to Cancer Research. My 2 team-mates chose National Children’s Homes and BackUp (a charity dedicated to helping people with spinal cord injuries).
I have an online link set up for donations: www.bmycharity.com/V2/hughmcclelland Alternatively just email me at hugh_mcclelland67@yahoo.co.uk if you’d like to sponsor my race.
Many thanks for your support.
