Virtual Webmaster
I’ve just finished working on a project which involved building an intranet site for a local organisation. Interestingly, as the project progressed I found myself being asked to take care of other web-related writing projects too – a newsletter that needed revamping, some internal product information sheets that needed revising and so on. That’s in addition to building the intranet site. This got me thinking... is there a need for a ‘Virtual Webmaster and Copywriter’ service?
There must be plenty of companies out there that need help keeping their website – and intranet site – updated, but don’t have the resource or indeed the workload to justify a fulltime employee. Wouldn’t it make sense for them to employ someone on a retainer basis to go in once or twice a week and take care of this work? Someone who could also research and write a few articles for publication online or in trade journals? Someone proficient in graphic design software as well as having long experience in the writing and web design fields. And best of all, someone who would work on a contract basis – with no benefits, holiday pay, or sickness pay to worry about.
In other words, companies that would benefit from someone who can update and publish webpages, write articles for a newsletter or website, and perhaps undertake some other general writing duties, web-related or otherwise.
I’m convinced there are organisations out there who would really benefit from this kind of service, but I’m not sure how to find them – or how to market the service effectively in the first place. I’d really welcome some feedback about this – any ideas would be gratefully received.
Just drop me an email if you have any thoughts.
