Bullies Star Prize
Every now and again I get some very unusual offers, most you just smile sweetly and say ' I don't think so!' When a challenge that is so different comes along - you just have to have a go- don't you.
The lovely Brian Smith from Escalator Marketing, a dear friend for a number of years invited me to join him to the Open Day at Bisley. Yes - the rifle range place. It turns out the mild mannered Mr Smith is a President of a rather posh rifle club- you can never tell what people do by looking at them - can you?
What a fantastic day out but a daunting task laid ahead and of course I didn't want to be a wimp - so it was "have a go" time. I couldn't believe how heavy the rifles were, but this was not like a shooting gallery the like of which you would see at a funfair - Oh No!
This was spread eagled on the floor with a 17.22 Sniper rifle aiming at a target 600 yards away where the bull is only 5 inches in diameter. Everyone was so friendly and you have a coach who looks after the corrections for wind etc so all you have to concentrate on is line up a series of circles through a telescopic lens. After each shot the target drops to where a group of very insane people sit and put orange markers on the target so you can tell 600 yards away where your bullet went - I hope they get really well paid. Can you imagine that on your CV - it would take some explaining. Anyway 'get me' guys and gals - 4 Vee bulls or bullseyes to us mere mortals. Out of a possible total score of 50 I got 41.4 apparently an impressive first attempt - look out world - look what I can do now.
What a fantastic day, my grateful thanks to the lovely Brian and the rest of the guys in his club at Bisley.
