Mary on Radio
It is always a pleasure - and a privilege to be invited onto radio - and even a greater one when it has the BBC label on it, especially with my dramatic introduction to the BBC when I was 15 years old. We are very lucky in Radio Berkshire land to have so many talented reporters and personalities on our daily shows.
Over the past few years I have recommended many business people to the radio - who have proved to be great speakers and experts within their fields. I am always glad to hear from anyone who would love to get on Radio - so please drop me a line - I make no promises!!!
If you are interested in radio, one of the best things you can practice on is pod casts - it is easy-peasy to get on You Tube and build your own messages - also great practice in finding out what other people are interested in. It has never been so good.
Meeting the really lovely Debbie McGee at Radio Berkshire has been an honour and a real treat. Debbie has well and truly stamped her mark on her own Sunday morning programme and has truly become part of our weekly radio lives. It is an absolute pleasure to be joining Debbie on a Sunday morning. I had the privilege of being the newspaper reviewer for over 3 years with the fabulous Henry Kelly. I had a chance to meet Gordon Brown on one occasion, and Henry told me, people will remember you for that. Well nobody remembered I had been invited to meet the Prime Minister but everyone knew I had been on the Henry Kelly programme. I even got chatting to Phil Kennedy and he seems to know everybody that is somebody. We even did a live broadcast when I was in the Mayor of Bracknell’s limo on our way to an event in London.
It is also important to support your local community radio. Supported and run by volunteers and always a great opportunity if you want to learn more about radio. I have been a guest and actually now have my own programme on Marlow FM. Huge fun to do, all the pressures you should feel running a live show, but an experience I have truly valued.
