MarlowFM supported the Marlow Town Carnival
Hi to all our 'Friends of MarlowFM'

Yes... I know it's been quite a while since I sent an update out but daughters starting grammar school, my clients wanting design and print work completing and the garden needing attention... and there are much more creative excuses I could use...

We had a great time at The Friends of Riley Park Carnival a couple of weeks back; hopefully the first of many over the years to come that MarlowFM will be involved with. We were blessed with fine weather and an excellent turnout from local residents and supporters. Thanks go out to the Trustees and organisers of the event, particularly Tim and Laura Spence. There's no doubt that the profile of the park is much greater now.

MarlowFM supported the Marlow Town Carnival last Saturday with the MarlowFM Roadshow, providing the PA system for all the live music acts and contributing to the musical backdrop of the day. Again thanks have to go out to the Marlow Community Association and all the other groups who contributed to a marvellous day in Higginsons Park. Jam Theatre Company, (Mark and Jo Noel-Hartley) put together a wonderful range of entertainment featuring the talents of Marlow's youth and women in the shape of the Descant Housewives! Tim Ashburner put all the cables in the right sockets, tweaked all the right knobs and pressed all the buttons and ensured that everyone in the park and beyond enjoyed this great musical event. We had one of our regular American listeners, Eddie Palmer of Virginia, call us to give us some feedback on the sound output and also to cheer us on in the tug of war contest.
Phil Evans was our MC for the day and for once didn't have to do anything particularly dangerous! (Pictures of his leap of faith when were were at Longridge will be on our web site soon.)

The MarlowFM Tug of War Team, "Radio Dayzed", conquered all before them and came out elated and triumphant winners of the inaugural Marlow Carnival Tug of War competition (pic attached).
Thanks to all those who cheered the team on; it made all the difference!

It was heart warming to have so many people come up to our broadcast trailer to give us support for our application to Ofcom to award us a 5 year community FM radio licence.

Our listening figures to MarlowFM Online have grown over the past couple of months, and significantly in the last couple of weeks since we began scheduled live broadcasts online. As it could be well into 2009 by the time we can get our FM service up and running, we're still aiming to provide the best online community radio station that we can in the meantime. We're offering to make and broadcast adverts for local Marlow community groups and organisations along with charities for free to help give them the exposure they need. However, as we will need to raise around £15,000 per year to keep the station on the air, any local company, business person or individual who would like to contribute to the success of our community radio station through sponsorship, paid advertising or donations should get in touch with us.
If there are any of you who couldn't make the meeting a few weeks back and are interested in presenting a show on MarlowFM Online, please get in touch with me as we still need to grow the pool of people we can rotate to ensure we maintain our live output. In particular I'm looking for volunteers to take turns with the 6.00-8.00pm Friday evening slot and 8.00-10.00am Saturday Breakfast Show.

Currently, our online schedule is as follows:-

24/7... around the clock is our 'hallmark' automated music playing everything from the 1930's to the present day... but in addition, we have:

Mon-Fri: 1.00-2.00pm - "The Eclectic Light Show" with yours truly, Paul Mansell; a mix of classic and contemporary music form all musical genres with the daily "You can't Beat The Beatles" slot at 1.30pm when I play a couple of tracks from the Fab Four or two cover versions.

Fri Evening:
6.00-8.00pm: "Welcome to The Weekend" with Paul Mansell; uplifting music to get you into the weekend groove.

8.00-10.00pm: "The Classic Rock Show" with Michelle Livings; all the very best in classic and contemporary rock music.

10.00-12.00 midnight: "Dance Education" with Ross Jordan; Ross will enlighten his 'students' to the world of Trance and House tunes.

Sat:
7.45-8.00am: "The Cheeky Monkey Show" brought to you by John Jolliffe; local children's entertainer and musician John Jolliffe supplies the fun and jollity for our younger listeners.

8.00-10.00am: "The Marlow Mob". Our Saturday morning breakfast show for all the family, hopefully brought to you by a different presenter each week, but at the moment it's me and Phil Evans although we may have a third lined up.

6.00-8.00pm: "The Folk & World Music Show" with Andy Fowler & Paul Mansell; the best in classic and contemporary folk, roots, acoustic and world music from every continent.

8.00-9.00pm: "Swing That Music" with Michael Eagleton. MIke's own personal choice of music covering everything from jazz, swing, classic sixties and the best of the crooners. Repeated on Sunday evenings at 8.00pm.

9.00-10.00pm: "Disco Days" with Simon Yates; a collection of all the disco greats including some rather rare disco bands. See http://www.discodays.us - Repeated on Sunday evenings at 9.00pm.

10.00-12.00 midnight: "Dance Education" with Ross Jordan. Repeated from Friday evening at 10.00pm.

Sun:
8.00-9.00pm: "Swing That Music" with Michael Eagleton. Repeated from Saturday evening at 8.00pm.

9.00-10.00pm: "Disco Days" with Simon Yates. Repeated from Saturday evening at 9.00pm.

10.00-12.00 midnight: "The Classic Rock Show" with Michelle Livings. Repeated from Friday evening at 10.00pm.

There are additional shows in the pipeline; Fendom Dawson of Marlow are going to be our 'Legal Eagles' providing a useful advice service, The Marlow Players are going to produce a series of dramas and readings for us to be aired, we have a regular Arts & Entertainment show being formatted at the moment along with a weekly programme showcasing the best in musical theatre and classics from the 'song book'. We also plan to provide a Friday evening sports show previewing the weekends local sporting action ahead. Just today I had communications with Dave Hampton, The Carbon Coach, about including some pertinent 'green issues' in the schedule. See www.marlowcarbon.com

Broadcasting live online as much as possible will give our presenters plenty of experience leading up to our launch on FM next year but will also demonstrate to the local community and most importantly to Ofcom our commitment to providing a valuable service to Marlow. You can still do your bit by spreading the word about what we're trying to do and promoting the schedule amongst your friends and contacts. Why not 'tune in' yourself sometime if you have the opportunity and give us some feedback?

... and as always, Keep The Buzz!

Cheers, Paul.
