SocialGo affiliate programme - should you join? |

SocialGo affiliate programme gets thumbs down from Jon Davey, Social Media Director at Business in Berkshire.
My experience of affiliate programmes has been far from impressive. Each one has let me down and left me feeling there is no point in wasting your enegy joining the various affiliate schemes that are on offer. Far better to make personal agreements with the business owner and know the face of the organisation you are dealing with. My first sortee with affiliate schemes saw 100,000 ads being shown resulting in 1 sale and £5 commission that never turned up, the company didn't pay the affiliate management company. Then at the end of the summer of 2009 I started to look at different content management systems as our own BinB system was developed in 2004 and so doesn't have the bells and whistles of newer systems ... but it is the most powerful SEO site in the local area with over 4,000,000 page impressions in the last 12 months. I tried SocialGo and was impressed by the ease of use. It had a few bugs but never the less game me the RSS feeds I was looking for to feed others with content. When asked by one of my business contacts to recommend a system for his new project I introduced him to SocialGo and recommended he trialled it and then, if it did what he wanted, go with the full service package as they could build the foundations to get him started. Obviously he just got on with stuff, he didn't click on my affiliate link ... he's a non techy business man ... like most business men. When I approached SocialGo a month later to say could they add his account to my ledger they said he hadn't clicked on the affiliate link so NO can do ... What planet do they come from thinking that is acceptable customer relations and business building skills??? I have repeatedly ask their management to respond to my request to discuss this and they have ignored my requests. I advised that I was very unimpressed and would follow up with an article or two ... Should you join SocialGo's affiliate programme? In my opinion, from experience, affiliate programmes in general are not worth the energy or admin ... much better to agree terms with a business man or woman who you can build a real business relationship with.
