Back on dry land...
Having taken over 30 hours to complete a relay swim to France and back, Lexicon's Nicola recovers with a nice cuppa and some dry clothes!
Last week I wrote about my forthcoming "two way relay Channel swim" - a team swim from England to France, and back again.
We swam last weekend, in Force 6 conditions, on a day when even most of Sir Bob's "Sail 8" flotilla turned back in deference to the awful conditions.
Battling seasickness during our spells on board, and rather large waves during our hour-long stints in the water, we eventually made it to France (albeit miles up the coast from where we were aiming to land) after 13:27 - a slow time for a relay. We weren't best placed to catch the tide on the way back, and therefore ended up way off course up in the north east channel. At one point, yours truly had to sprint for an hour to bypass the Goodwin Sands!
Finally, after 30:40 of continual swimming by the group, we landed back in England....in Sandwich Bay! Our course had taken us off the map used by the crew to chart our progress and no-one could quite believe how far east we were. Still, unchartered territory makes a good tale to tell!
