Olympic Berkshire!

Congratulations London, you'll be hosting the summer Olympic games in 2012. What does that mean for the businesses, venues and people of Berkshire? Let's look at how the Olympics might affect our county in the run-up to 2012.

With its close proximity to London and other key Olympic sites, Berkshire is brilliantly placed to benefit financially and promotionally from the successful 2012 bid. Dorney Lake in Eton will host the rowing and sprint kayaking events and, with Britain's strength on the water already proven, could well be the site of a home medal or two. The £17million venue already trains Olympic champions, and local schools use the lake for rowing lessons. Will the run-up to 2012 see a boost in the popularity of the world-class venue and the sports it promotes?

Swinley Forest, part of Windsor Forest, will be the venue for the mountain biking events, bringing tourist interest (and money) to the area and having knock-on effects for surrounding hotels and restaurants.

Reading, like many major towns in the country, anticipates a boost from the London 2012 games. Ideally situated for the M4, central London and Heathrow, the town envisages increased turnover for its hotels and entertainments. Local firms providing services such as security and fencing hope to feel the effects of the winning bid, too.

London's 2012 Olympic games can only be a good thing for Berkshire. How will your business benefit in the run up to 2012?
