Isle of Man relay - June 2008
Nicola took part in the inaugural Isle of Man relay on Saturday 14 June with five other swimmers. The swim was aborted after 22 miles and 12 hours due to F6 winds, but they did see sharks and seals!
Nicola joined five other swimmers to try a relay swim down one side of the Isle of Man, to the Point of Ayre to the Calf of Man. It hadn't been done before, and the organisation left a little to be desired, so it was only slightly disappointing when the swim had to be aborted just after Peel Castle due to bad weather.
Nicola swam two hour-long stints, just south of the Point, and around Peel Castle. The water was a very chilly 12*C but beautiful, and she was joined by a seal (which she could see) and a large basking shark (which she couldn't: probably a good thing).
The organiser promises boat cover which could cope with rough weather next time!
You can see lots of pictures of the swim here.
