June 2008 - basking with sharks |
In June, Nicola took a long weekend and went to the Isle of Man, home to the famous TT bike race and some rather large basking sharks. It was the sharks which interested her, since she'd be getting up close and personal with them...
As part of her training for a solo swim from Jersey to France in September, Nicola took part in a relay swim (with five other swimmers) from the Point of Ayre to the Calf of Man. The swim had to be aborted due to F6 winds (you get used to that kind of thing in this sport) but she still did a couple of hour-long stints in beautiful, 12*C water. And, yes, she saw a shark. Next time you see her, ask to see the picture on her phone. Back in Berkshire, Nicola enjoyed networking and welcomed new clients It's All About... event management to her books. She'll be helping this exciting new adventure-holiday company to get press coverage. She continued working on conference production for CIBSE and Citywire, researching the relevant markets, writing conference programmes and identifying and securing keynote speakers. She filed features for Sweet, 220 Triathlon and Triathlete's World magazines, whilst her words appeared in Swimming Times, Bowlers' World and Push Hockey magazine in her capacity as a freelance PR. |
