March 2008 - conference production and a celebration

March is chock-a-block for Nicola. She's even had to turn down work (something she hates doing!)
Clarion Gaming, a conference company she worked with in 2007, approached her with a chunk of work. Nicola's doing some in-depth background research, using her keen journalist's nose to sniff out hot topics so that their biggest annual conference and expo will deliver what the market wants.
For Business in Berkshire, Nicola has written copy for Windsor Vehicle Leasing, Verbatim, Absolute Health and Safety and Focal Point.
She had success on the feature-writing front, too, selling four pieces in from 'cold' pitches. That's four brand new magazines she can add to her portfolio! She's currently working on features for 220 Triathlon, Triathlete's World, Sweet, easyjet'sInflight, Air Malta'sSky Life and BMI's top-end inflight magazine, Voyager.
A London PR agency took Nicola on for two days a week. She's working on their sports brands, writing press releases and case studies and selling pieces into consumer and trade magazines. It's great (and means that she gets to talk to someone other than the dog during the day)!
Nicola also arranged to have some professional headshots done after meeting a photographer at local networking breakfast.. What a stroke of luck, not only is John Cassidy a pro with years of freelance work behind him working for national papers, he also specialises in shooting sportspeople. Nicola doesn't kid herself that she's actually a sportsperson but, since she mainly writes about sport and fitness for print, that's the kind of look she was going for.
Somehow she managed to find some time off, and whisked her husband off to Dublin where they celebrated their second wedding anniversary. Where has the time gone?
