October 2009 - working the networking

Nicola knuckled down to a lot of networking in October and, by the end of the month, her efforts were paying off with lots of new contacts, new clients and new friends.

Having visited Wokingham BNI at the end of September, she paid a visit to Wokingham BRX and attended the monthly Keller Breakfast. At the Keller, she met up with marketing bod Jeremy Mai from Ascot agency Unity DC, who asked her to join him on a relationship marketing project for a local telecoms company.

It wasn't all new business, though: in October Nicola also wrote newsletter copy for regular clients the the LPA and Assorti (see download) and web copy for Absolute Health and Safety Solutions. She also gathered and edited client testimonials for Assorti, to be used in newsletters and other marketing material.

For the British Triathlon Association's Tri News, she was pleased to interview Chris Boardman for a feature about Boardman Bikes and she tested some swimming kit for 220 Triathlon's's review pages. For Sweet magazine, she wrote a feature about how keeping a journal can help diabetics manage their condition, and interviewed a mountaineer who has Type 1.

She wrote online profiles for two photographers: Guido Torres and Clare Smart, enabling them to fill the biog space of their online industry association pages.

A busy month, but it wasn't all work. Nicola's Mum treated her to a hysterical evening out watching Never Forget (the Take That musical) in Oxford. Hee! And, after an eventful summer, Nicola and her husband took a week off. They didn't go anywhere exotic but simply enjoyed a week off, taking the new dog to the New Forest, going to the pub at lunchtime and trying not to check email too often (OK, that last one was just Nicola...)

Frankie-the-pup is getting on just fine, by the way. He started "Improvers' Classes" (although he wasn't improving on anything - he could just about "sit") and he went to a charity dog show during October. He got down to the final four in Waggiest Tail and was Highly Commended in Cutest Dog.
