September 2009 - new faces

After a sad few months without an office dog (RIP, XT), Lexicon paid a visit to Binfield Dog Rescue in September and met Frankie, a Boxer-cross pup. Before too long he was in residence and part of the family.

September was therefore spent working... getting up to check where the dog is.... working.... checking what the dog is doing.... working.... wondering why the dog has gone quiet...working....

Frank is settling down now, though, and normal service is beginning to resume!

This month, Nicola wrote e-newsletter copy for Andrea at Assorti, and a photographer's profile for award-winning portrait photographer Jo Hanley. One of Jo's projects was her "Swimming the City" series, and she's also provided images to Triathlete's World magazine, so Nicola felt they had a few things in common.

Speaking of Triathlete's World, Nicola attended an editorial meeting with in-house staff and some other freelancers, which was fun. It's nice to meet other freelance journalists, as they're a curious breed who tend to spend a lot of time working by themselves. She wrote a piece for the magazine about how to be a more well-mannered triathlete (a feature she's wanted to write for ages, so thanks for commissioning it, TW!) this month. For Sweet she interviewed a mountain biker who's got Type 1 diabetes, and for Fresh Direction she interviewed a student who was just back from working in America during her summer holidays. She also did a kit test for 220 Triathlon magazine and filed the feature about RNLI lifeguards lifeguarding to the folk at Coast magazine.

She continued to work with CIBSE to help them produce their annual conference and helped British Triathlon with a feature for membership magazine Tri News (interviewing Chris Boardman MBE in the process). She also attended a networking event at her local BNI chapter and looks forward to lots more productive meetings with the members. You can find a list of them here.

Oh - thank you for asking - Nicola's fully recovered after August's hernia repair op. Frank already weighs 22kgs, so she didn't really have a choice!
