July 2009 - goodbye to a good friend |
July was a month of ups and downs at Lexicon Towers. Nicola celebrated her 32nd birthday with a lovely (if slightly chilly!) picnic in Henley but then, sadly, a few days later Lexicon's "office dog", XT, passed away suddenly.
So, it was a bit of a funny month really and knuckling down to work was a challenge, but as any freelancer knows, there's no such thing as compassionate leave when you're self-employed! Nicola produced an article about the cost of entering triathlon races, for Triathlete's World, and two interviews for Sweet magazine. She also did some kit reviews for 220 Triathlon magazine. Also for 220 Triathlon, she interviewed Olympic Gold medallist Maarten van der Weijden on his top-tips for open-water success. She finished off work on British Triathlon's website and membership magazine, and produced web copy for a number of local companies including The Oriel and Thames Valley Networks. On a windy and drizzly day at Dorney, Nicola worked with the team at The Tri Life to coach new triathletes in the art of open-water swimming. The following day, she was back at Dorney but this time as a competitor, taking part in Human Race's Bananaman Triathlon. She also took part in an aquathlon (that's swim and then run) at Liquid Leisure in Datchet. To top off a busy month, her little sister got married in a lovely ceremony with a fun party that followed. Congratulations, Hannah and Will! |
