February 2009 - interviews and kit-tests |
|||
February was a busy month for Nicola (she didn't even get time to write about it until March!) Commissions for 220 Triathlon, Triathlete's World, Triathlon Plus and Sweet kept her busy, along with regular copywriting work and new client meetings.
Her cupboard under the stairs was full to bursting as it housed various bits of swimming kit to be tested for magazine features. She tested swim kit, wetsuits and sports bras for 220 Triathlon, and co-ordinated an enormous grouptest of wetsuits for the launch issue of Triathlon Plus. This involved contacting PRs and manufacturers, calling product in, testing a dozen wetsuits and writing the piece up. What, you mean you don't spend your evenings shivering at the side of an (open-air pool) for work? She also tested a load of goggles for a feature for 220 Triathlon, which you can download below. Also for Triathlon Plus, she interviewed World Champion Julie Dibens for an instructive piece about stepping up your swim training for Summer. Yes, it's February now but by the time the article comes out, triathletes will be gearing up for race-season. She also interviewed a fellow Channel-swimmer for Sweet magazine and wrote a piece about transferring from pool swimming to the open-water, for Triathlete's World. She had a great time with this one, speaking to loads of interesting people including coaches and sports-psychologists. With her copywriting hat on, Nicola interviewed photographers and competitions judges for the LPA's monthly newsletter, wrote Assorti's newsletter and wrote webcopy for a range of Business in Berkshire clients. She also wrote a series of case-studies, including Helly Hansen and Daimler Chrysler, for new client Market Touch. In her spare time (when she wasn't testing wetsuits), Nicola went to watch Strictly Come Dancing Live with her Mum and sister (James Jordan looked at her! He did!), ran the Bramley 10 mile race in a shade over 80-minutes and was invited to visit the jolly folk at over in Lightwater. She also met up with an old friend, Ed Lawson, who's setting himself up as a freelance photographer. Take a look at his site - he's good.
