January 2009 - new business for the New Year

Nicola spent New Year in a cottage in Wales with nine friends but was back at her desk on the 5th, to tackle a new batch of commissions!

In January, Nicola worked on conference content for CIBSE, finalising their annual National Conference.

Nicola spent a lot of time in the pool on behalf of Triathlete's World and 220 Triathlon magazine, testing new bits of triathlon kit and writing buyers' guides and group tests. 220 Magazine enjoyed her comic style, saying: "Backstreet Boys, McFly and Lionel Ritchie in one review! You’re our art editor’s new hero!" Nicola also also wrote a profile of diabetic triathlete Gary Blakie for her regular spot in Sweet magazine. At the press launch for a new bit of fitness kit, Nicola met the Editor of Triathlete's World magazine and had a nice chat over a coffee - it's always good to put a face to a name!

With her copywriting hat on, Nicola wrote e-newsletter copy for regular clients including Assorti and the London Photographic Association and several in-depth case studies for new client Market Touch.

Nicola ended the month by welcoming her "baby" sister, Hannah, up to Berkshire for a spot of networking. Hannah has set herself up in business as a Virtual PA (Virtual Girl Friday) and Nicola arranged for her to meet with Andrea from Assorti (lifestyle management and concierge) and Hannah from Fish In Custard (virtual administrative support). Thank you both for your time and advice - unofficial networking meetings like these are a great example of how members of the freelance community are willing to support each other!
