December 2007 - PR, photographers and a prospectus...

An annual conference, photographers' profiles, a first-timer's CV, kit testing for a sports magazine, an institute's prospectus and PR for a small business are just some of the work that's flown off Nicola's desk this month... She's also been watching a teensy bit of "Strictly Come Dancing".

In December, Nicola finished work on a major freelance conference project. She's been working as freelance conference producer for The Institute For Family Business since September, programming the most important event in their calendar - the annual National Forum Conference.

She also wrote several profiles for members of the London Photographic Association as the LPA launches its Gallery 1839 online exhibition and sales site. Nicola has worked with the LPA for the past two years, writing their monthly newsletter and doing freelance PR for the London association. As members join, they need to provide an online profile and often turn to Nicola so that she can write the profile on their behalf.

Chris at Moving Finger kindly sent a CV writing enquiry Nicola's way, so Nicola met with a chap from Reading who needed to put together his first CV since moving to the UK but had no idea where to start. In no time at all, Nicola had a professional CV ready for him. Best of luck with the job search!

As a channel swimmer, runner and triathlete, Nicola enjoys writing features for sports magazines. This month, 220 Triathlon magazine sent some goggles her way for their monthly kit test section. A trip to the pool and 150 words later, Nicola had one of her kit tests ready for 220's pages.

The Institute for Family Business were so satisfied with Nicola's freelance conference production work on their National Conference, they asked her to help them overhaul their prospectus. A major marketing tool, the prospectus needs sharp copy written in a carefully-pitched tone. Nicola has just submitted the first draft of her copy.

One of Nicola's regular clients, Harrison's Hair Team in her home county of Kent, needed several press releases to be written and placed in local, trade and consumer press this month. They are also planning a regular newsletter, so Nicola has been working with company owner Sue and her PA Hannah to put together some really fun and punchy copy to keep their clients informed.

Nicola also did some free work in December for her 2007 charity client, Bracknell Samaritans. As the busy Christmas and New Year period approaches, they wanted to put a call out to potential new listening volunteers, and asked Nicola to help them put together a "Letter to the Editor" and press release for local newspapers. Nicola wrote the copy and sent it out to her contacts at the Bracknell Standard, Wokingham Times, Bracknell News, The Wokingham Word, Vanilla Magazine and Aldershot News.

When not working, Nicola has been avidly watching Gethin Jones's performances in "Strictly Come Dancing", and single-handedly preparing her house for Christmas whilst her husband is recovering from a microdiscectomy.

One of Nicola's regular clients wanted to place an advertorial in their local press so asked Nicola to liaise with the newspaper, conduct an interview and then write up the advertorial. ]
