Valley Life
During our last business trip in Umbria and Tuscany we've come across a small magazine which we would recommend as a serious reading about Italian life. It truly reflects our spirit at Land of Art.
The editorial staff is composed by Italians and British nationals that decided to live the magic of that region and all the articles are in Italian and English.
The spirit of the magazine transcends any border. It's about real people rediscovering their life in a land with a great character and not just a 30-minute TV report looking for the best bargains on properties.
As a start of our collaboration, we are pleased to host on this pages a short article about life in Umbria appearing on the current issue of the magazine. If you'd like to receive a copy of the magazine, just E-mail us as we have some copies available.
Region of Umbria, The Strength of Rural Tradition
by the editorial staff of Valley Life
Umbria is known as "the green heart of Italy". Owing to its geographic position, mountain range, vegetative structure and a thousand-year agricultural tradition, the rural culture is spread out over different natural environments and it offers itself to the tourist in all its natural beauty.
Unspoilt environments, historic, artistic and cultural values as well as an authentic cuisine, still linked to its traditional roots, constitute a formidable pole of attraction for Italian and foreign holiday makers.
This landscape heritage represents an ideal environment for certain agricultural activities that in recent years have been developed and consolidated as a form of rural hospitality that permit, often at a lower cost than traditional accommodations, a new type of holiday to be passed in a natural and peaceful oasis, at close contact with nature.
A stay within these agricultural businesses, scattered throughout the whole of the region, offer the possibility of embarking on intriguing culinary itineraries while discovering Umbria's flavours as well as an insight into its historic/artistic heritage.
The extraordinary variety of typical Umbrian produce offer a significant quantity of genuine and top quality gourmet products to food and wine lovers.
From every farmhouse it is extremely easy to reach the majority of the art cities and many small towns rich in history, art and culture. Wherever one decides to go it is possible to visit a laboratory or an artisan shop specialising in ceramics, terracotta and majolica, wrought iron, embroidered materials, arte povera furniture, made by expert carvers, cabinet-makers and inlayers, as well as various gifts linked to peasant life
But there's more. Those that wish to couple their stay with physical activity, may, within the farmhouses or within neighbouring zones, participate in various forms of open-air sport: horse-riding, canoeing, trekking, mountain biking, extreme sports and even traditional sports once practiced during peasant festivals.
This is "Agricultural Umbria": to be seen, tasted and loved.
