Knol a unit of knowledge
Knol is a new website that was launched on Wednesday 23rd July 2008 to aggregate news.
Why have Google launched Knol?
There seems to be a feeling that Knol is Google’s answer to Wikipedia. Tired of seeing wiki at the top of the pops, Google have come up with a very smooth way of encouraging people to add content and ensure their customers are flying high both on the left and right of Google searches. The ultimate aim to drive more £££.
We have created some space to give you LiaiseOnline’s experience of the Knol. We are opened minded and also need to stay abreast of the latest widgets so we can do a better job for our clients.

The Knol site has one goal: to help you share what you know.
The Knol project is a site that hosts many knols — units of knowledge — written about various subjects. The authors of the knols can take credit for their writing, provide credentials, and elicit peer reviews and comments. Users can provide feedback, comments, and related information. So the Knol project is a platform for sharing information, with multiple cues that help you evaluate the quality and veracity of information.
Knols are indexed by the big search engines, of course. And well-written knols become popular the same as regular web pages. The Knol site allows anyone to write and manage knols through a browser on any computer.
How do I get started writing my own knols?
We have added:
• a profile of Jonathan Davey
• an article on Email Marketing which we spent a good few hours on as we believed that our article was going to be the first about email marketing, it was in fact the third. When we had searched on Friday evening there appeared to be no articles on Email Marketing... there are now!
• And another entitled, search engine marketing , which talks about our experience of Royal Ascot this year and how we have grown the visitors some 500% year on year!
We have give each hot titles, just in case they get major levitation and therefore are found by hundreds of thousands of people looking for these services. Not that we could manage them all but hey, thousands need to hear for a few hundred to step forward and a couple of dozen to dive in and join our party!
We’ll keep you posted of their evolution... I know they have been indexed by the site and since it lives in knoll.google.com they have therefore been indexed by the engine. Will they become top listings... let’s wait and see.
