Opening Ceremony at the World Rowing Championships 2006
Eton College's Dorney Lake is officially a 2012 venue, and more than 1,000 athletes are preparing to compete on its waters.
Rowing, of course, is among Britain’s most successful sports, providing a regular supply of medals at world and Olympic level, through the likes of Sir Steve Redgrave, Matthew Pinsent and Debbie Flood.
A record 64 nations will compete, and the 1,000 athletes taking part represent a 28 per cent increase on last year. Germany, current world cup champions, will be bringing 80 athletes, America 84, and Canada 63, while 59 will compete for Great Britain.
With the excitement of the opening ceremony, the damp weather didn't deter the excitement among the adult volunteer paddlers or the children wafters. With a fantastic show of flags representing each country at this years World Championships, Longridge should be proud of fantastic performance.
For further information regarding the World Rowing Championships that are being held over the next week, or how you can support Longridge, please contact Amanda via the website details.
Day tickets are still available from £5.00.
The event is funded by UK Sport and Siemens is the Main Sponsor and the Premier National Sponsor.
