Windsor Castle – Family Activities
Family Tours on Saturdays: 29 July, 5 August, 26 August, and 2 September 2006 at 12:00, 13:30 and 15:00. For the first time this year, interactive guided tours are being introduced at Windsor Castle, the oldest and largest castle in the world. Visitors with children will be transported back in time to discover more than 900 years of history.
They will see battlements, towers and arches as they explore the Castle walls, learn about why the former Norman fortress was built on the site and replaced by a castle fit for a king, imagine firing at enemies through arrow loops, and find out where boiling water was dropped on attackers through murder holes.
Discovering Castles
7-20 August 2006 11.00 to 16.00. Visitors will battle with history as they follow an activity trail to discover why motte and bailey castles were built, spot battlements, towers and murder holes and find out how they kept people safe by keeping the enemy at bay.
After exploring Windsor Castle, children can use a model of the castle in the Moat Education Room to see how arrow loops worked, and draw inspiration from their visit to create their own fortress, with murder holes and a portcullis.
Suitable for children between 5 and 11 years of age. Family activities are run on a drop-in basis. Standard admission prices apply. More information on Windsor Castle.
