*FLYING LESSONS at Snelsmore Common, Thurs 24th August, 9 am
Meet at the covered area at Snelsmore Common to investigate what has flown into our moth trap overnight. Then enjoy a walk on the Common to learn more about day flying insects.
SCARY SPIDERS & LOVELY LADYBIRDS Weds 30th August 11.30am-4pm
Make a mask and become a creature from the undergrowth! Little ones may need help with some of the construction work but older children will be able to work on their own to create a mask to be proud of. No need to book, £1.00 per mask.
SILLY SNAILS Friday 1st Sept 11.30am - 4pm
Choose to make a woven snail or make one from recycled cardboard. Either way, enjoy unleashing artistic talents and inventing a new mollusc as a family pet! No need to book, £1.00 per snail.
*GREENHAM COMMON BUG WALK Thurs 3rd August 2pm-4pm
Join the ranger for a walk with our local 'bug' expert to learn about some of the flying insects on the common. We will hope to see butterflies, dragonflies, grasshoppers and crickets; with a bit of luck we should also be able to catch some of them so we can study them up close and learn about their fascinating lives.
Meet at the control tower car park, off Bury's Bank Road. Free event, but booking essential.
*WILDLIFE EXPLORATION AFTERNOON at Hosehill Lake Local Nature Reserve - Wednesday 9th August 1pm-3pm
Go mini-beast hunting and pond dipping to find out what lives at Hosehill Lake Local Nature Reserve. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at the Fox & Hounds Pub, Station Road, Theale.
*A MINI HEATHLAND EXPERIENCE – Padworth Common Local Nature Reserve - Thursday 17th August 10am-2pm
A great chance to spend a fun day at Padworth Common with the ranger. There will be short tasks in the morning relating to aspects of heath management and conservation, such as cutting bracken and scrub and digging small patches to regenerate heather. The materials collected will then be used to build a temporary shelter to use during lunch. After lunch, search for adders, slow worms, insects and other animals. Hot and cold drinks provided but bring a packed lunch. Wear sturdy shoes and dress for mess.
Suitable for children aged 8 years or over.
*Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Please contact the Ranger on (01635) 580792 for further information or to book.
