Wising Up 2 Work
Starting work for the first time can be tough, with lots of new stuff to learn and new challenges to face. Launched in conjunction with the Institution of Occupational Health & Safety, Wiseup2work is a great new interactive website aimed at first-time workers.
The aim of wiseup2work is to help young people prepare themselves for the world of work. The site features interactive games, a chat forum, and a national competition to help young people learn about the challenges they may face at work, and how to deal with them.
The website itself is a slice of pure fun - the homepage is designed to look like a typical office noticeboard, complete with post-it notes, business cards, and scraps of paper. Clicking on various components takes you further into the site. The ‘office’ page recreates a virtual office environment and comes complete with accurate background noises like ringing phones and an undercurrent of voices.
Like the homepage, clicking on various parts of the image takes you to other areas of the site. For example, clicking on the postcard takes you to the ‘Summer Jobs’ section. Click on the laptop for details about the training Pack; click on the phone to enter the competition. There’s plenty of other interactivity going on too – click the radio to play music, click the spotlamp to switch it on, mouse-over the wallboard to see it change.
All in all a fun website well worth visiting for anyone shortly about to launch themselves into the job market.
