The Sea, The Sea – An Exhibition
Until Sunday 5 October
In this exhibition , paintings and drawings from the museum collections evoke the cry of gulls, the smell of salt spray and the feel of sand beneath your feet. Complementing the artworks are seldom seen objects collected and created by people who lived, worked and dreaded by the sea – from shells, fossils and birds to tools, models and ceramics with plenty of things for all the family to see and do.

Mosaic Madness
Tuesday 29 July, 10am, 11.15am, 1pm and 2.15pm
A fun introduction to the art of mosaic making inspired by our Roman mosaics.

Turning Terns
Wednesday 30 July, 10am – 12noon and 1pm – 3pm
Find the terns in our exhibition 'The Sea, The Sea' and create a seabird handing mobile.

Fantastic Flying Fish
Thursday 31 July, 10am – 12noon and 1pm – 3pm
Design and make a beautiful pull-along flying fish kite to take down to the beach on a windy summer's day.

That's The Way To Do It!

Make your own Punch and Judy puppets from felt.

Sun, Sea and Sand
Wednesday 6 August, 10am – 12noon, 1pm – 3pm
Use coloured sand to create a fantastic sea shore picture.
FREE, just drop in; Suitable for families.

Raps Beside the Sea
Friday 8 August, 10am – 12noon (7 – 11 yrs) and 1pm – 3pm (11 – 13 yrs)
Saturday 9 August, 10am – 12.30pm
Create your own lyrics about the sea working with poet Joseph Coelho. Draw inspiration from the weird and the wonderful in our exhibition 'The Sea, The Sea'. Come back to perform your work with friends and family at the weekend.

Seashell Secrets
Tuesday 12 August, 10am, 11.15am, 1pm and 2.15pm
Come along to the museum and leave with your own treasure chest decorated with sea-shells and other sea motifs.

Wish You Were Here
Wednesday 13 August, 10am – 12noon and 1pm – 3pm
Help create a giant group postcard scene collage.

Hats Ahoy

Ready to sail the high seas? Design your own pirate's hat and eye patch and explore the paintings in our exhibition 'The Sea, The Sea'

Simple Sailboat Craft

Make a little sailboat that will float on water.

Trap the Ocean in a Box
Tuesday 26 August, 10am – 12noon and 1pm – 3pm
Make your own minature ocean scene – add seaweed, coral and your favourite fish.

Magical Masks
Wednesday 27 August, 10am – 12noon and 1pm – 3pm
As sailors sailed the seas they created stories about the creatures they saw. Image you have sailed the world and create a mask or headdress or a sea creature.

Pied Piper Trail
Thursday 7, 14 and 21 August, 2pm – 2.45pm
Join a lively walk starting from Chili's restaurant in the Oracle, and discover Reading's hidden history on the way to the museum. FREE, just drop in; Suitable for all ages.
