Family fun at Music and Dance in the Park

Date: 3 August 2008 Time: 1pm to 9pm Headliner, Jools Holland and his 18 piece rhythm and blues orchestra will be playing a full 90 minute set and will be supported by a variety of acts from the local area and further afield, including the Magic of Motown, The Black Eagles and the Physical Jerks. Price: Due to popular demand, the council will be selling tickets at Upton Court Park on Saturday (2 August) from 11 until 3pm and on the day (Sunday 3 August) from 11am until 5pm at £14 each. Under 12s go free with a paying adult. The Music and Dance in the Park festival will be a whole day of fun for all the family with face painting, children’s workshops, balloon modelling and henna painting as well as a great programme of live artists. Upton Court Park will host one of its largest ever public events in Slough as Music and Dance in the Park welcomes mega star Jools Holland and his 18 piece Rhythm and Blues Orchestra. Music and Dance in the Park, organised by Slough Borough Council, will see Jools Holland joined by special guests Marc Almond, Ruby Turner and Louise Marshall, after an array of local and international acts, including the Magic of Motown. 
Music and Dance in the Park follows the highly successful Dance in the Square events from previous years, due to the town square’s revitalisation work. Music and Dance in the Park will be a family event, with festival goers encouraged to arrive early with a picnic and blanket. There will also be a wide variety of food stalls and a licensed bar. Brazil - dancers and Latin bands Traditional Brazillian dance groups offering carnival style Samba, Salsa, Flamengo and Tango together with Latin band Jazz Orient Indian and Jazz musicians with a touch of folk influence Magic of Motown - singers and band A superbly talented cast brings to life the hits of The Four Tops, The Supremes, The Tempations, The Jacksons and many more in a 60 minute spectacular Black Eagles Acrobatic dance group from Tanzania perform their breathtaking routines Gloria Garcia plus musicians and dancers Gloria will be performing jazz influenced songs accompanied by musicians and dancers Jools Holland and his 18 Piece Rhythm & Blues Orchestra Featuring Gilson Lavis with special guest star Marc Almond and guest vocalists Louise Marshall and Ruby Turner in a 90 minute show stopper Firework Finale Closing with fireworks |
