Being from the security fraternity I would always advocate the use of security technology such as CCTV providing it is used as part of an integrated security solution. Let me explain. A CCTV system on its own merely records images which may be of use after the event providing the images are good enough. If the public space CCTV system is well maintained, monitored properly by trained operators and is supported by the local constabulary then it should help reduce crime in the areas it covers.
