Local Giving for Local Need

Last Thursday evening we had the honour of being invited over to Cumberland Lodge to join in the launch of the Berkshire Community Foundation’s Windsor & Maidenhead Fund.

Cumberland Lodge has a long history and you need to drive for 2-3 miles into Windsor Great park to find it. What a great way to glimpse back in time when life was led at a more realistic pace and the sight of a motor car was rare... marvellous!

What I love about the BCF is that it is a charity that leads by example. They are all about supporting all the local causes, not just one. Each year they give the best part of £1,000,000 to hundreds of local initiatives, good causes and small charities looking to help the less fortunate in the community.

The Rotary Club have an unusual mission for June 2008 to help raise a few quid towards Windsor’s Christmas lights! To this end I am helping them sell tickets for the Windsor Duck Race 2008. Our aim is to sell around 4000 small ducks at £2 each and 100 business ducks at £25 each.

I’ve taken 20 tickets along to my local Chinese takeaway and they are happy to help out... that’ll be Blossoms on Dedworth Road. And I plan on hitting the streets for a day later this week and talk to local businesses in real time so we can have some Christmas lights of which we can be proud in our wonderful town centre!

While at the BCF event I was talking to Richard Griffith-Jones, Chairman of the Berkshire Community Foundation and I mentioned my mission. He was only too pleased to help out and confirmed to me that the fund leads by example.

If you would like to help us with this month’s mission then please make contact, Business Ducks start at £25 and for a higher fee we are happy to offer you some Strategic Product Levitation!

Next month we’ll be coming at you with our first BCF mission, so please join in the giving and we’ll help you with your missions as you choose to share with us.

Thank you in anticipation.
