Junior Chamber International United Kingdom Launch Voice of the Future 2007
The ability to speak with confidence is a vital asset for people of ALL ages to have. The development of this key skill is a valuable tool for personal growth and effective citizenship. In today’s climate of increasing competition, the ability to stand out from the crowd is becoming even more important. Do you believe that soap operas are the new Shakespeare or that cutting down trees is a good thing? Entrants into Voice of the Future 2007, the Youth and Schools National Public Speaking competition for young people will be asked to talk on these topics. Junior Chamber International United Kingdom (JCI UK) runs the competition in association with local and national sponsors. There are two age categories 13-15 and 16-18, with participants being asked to speak for five minutes from a range of chosen subjects. Competitions are run locally throughout the country, the top two in each age category will go on to represent the area in a Regional competition. Winners of this round will then travel onto the National finals in May 2007. Local Chamber President, Taina Palhomaa from Junior Chamber International (JCI) Reading said “Junior Chamber continually strives to help its members improve their own skills and abilities by encouraging them to take part in a wide range of events and activities. The ability to speak, with confidence, in public is one that benefits each and every one of us and we are delighted to be taking part in this important competition.” Junior Chamber International (JCI) Reading along with generous sponsorship from Finnforest UK Ltd (www.finnforest.co.uk) is organising the Reading heats and is encouraging all local young people between 13 and 18 to participate. A letter of invitation and an information leaflet with full guidelines has been sent to local high schools, youth groups and clubs, it includes ideas on how to speak more effectively in public.
