Welcome to the latest Jazzmouse newsletter for August.
We’ve been involved in some great events this summer with open air concerts with strings in Hull and Horsham and a wedding with possibly the best entertainment ever! We were more than happy to provide front of house mixing services to the multi award winning Syd Lawrence orchestra this summer for two very different outdoor concerts. The first was part of Hull’s ‘Classics in the park’ season and was their first departure from an orchestral based program. The concert was in aid of two charity’s The Daisy Appeal and South Hunsley School. The 1,000 plus audience had a dry and fun filled evening culminating in a grand firework display. The second concert was at Horsham’s South Hill Lodge supporting the Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice. This concert featured the Syd Lawrence Concert Orchestra complete with strings and although not quite as ‘dry’ as the Hull concert a great time was had by yet another capacity crowd. Picture the scene the bride & groom have just cut their cake and gone off to change. The bride returns alone and the music begins. One minute into the song a backlit gauze reveals the groom in a tail coat sat at a Steinway model A piano playing the music that was playing when he got engaged. He then plays a loving tribute of music from ‘Love actually’ before handing the stage over to opera star John Hudson. This was how the evening started for the new Mr. & Mrs. Ross Barker at the Landmark Hotel in London this month. This was followed by an all star big band with Gary Williams, Top Persian singer Morteza flew in from LA followed by Anthony King and his Michael Jackson dance troop and the ‘Real Deal’ function band concluded the line up. Jazzmouse’s Paul Fawcus was appointed sound director for this complex event and was part a strong creative team that involved video, lighting, stage rigging, location recording services, stage management and PA hire. It was more like a festival than a wedding at times with very tight turnaround times and lots of artists to chaperone.
