Syd Lawrence orchestra ‘re:generation’
It’s been yet another busy month for Paul Fawcus at Jazzmouse Studios. Paul has just finished working on the latest album by the Syd Lawrence orchestra, entitled ‘re:generation’, an EP by Christian Billett of ‘Voice of Musical Theatre’ fame, and preparing for a concert with the BBC Big Band featuring Tony Hadley.
Paul has recently been mixing and mastering the latest album by big band legend Syd Lawrence. Recently voted “Best Big Band in the Land” for the ninth consecutive year, the fabulous Syd Lawrence Orchestra was founded in 1967 by trumpeter and arranger Syd Lawrence. The band have been thrilling audiences in concert halls, theatres, TV shows, and music festivals all over Great Britain and Europe for over 40 years with a high octane blend of Big Band Swing and Classic Dance Music.
The most enduringly popular Big Band in Britain today, the orchestra has been directed by Chris Dean since Syd’s retirement in 1996.
Christian Billett achieved second place in Radio 2’s coveted ‘Voice of Musical Theatre’ competition last year. The event is the centrepiece of the Cardiff International Festival of Musical Theatre and is produced by BBC Cymru Wales. Christian has recently been recording an EP of material at Jazzmouse Studios; release dates to be announced soon.
In addition to running the studio, Paul Fawcus also acts as Front of House Sound Engineer for the BBC Big Band. The Band are playing a special performance at The Hawth in Crawley on Friday 13 April featuring 80’s pop crooner Tony Hadley. Paul will be sound engineering the concert. Known to millions as ‘the voice of Spandau Ballet’ Tony Hadley explores big band sounds with songs from his latest CD 'Passing Strangers', including 'Too Close for Comfort', 'The Good Life' and 'I Wanna Be Around'.
