|
Samsung Electronics has reported strong profits in the fourth-quarter of 2009 thanks to increased sales of flat screen televisions and mobile phones.
The company's net profit in the three months to 31 December rose to 3.1 trillion won ($2.7bn;£1.7bn). Samsung said it sold nearly 11 million flat screen televisions in the period, becaming the first manufacturer to exceed 10 million sales in a quarter. The company also sold 69 million mobile phone handsets during the three months. This was up 16% on the same period a year earlier. Samsung sold a total of 277 million handsets in 2009. In a statement, Samsung said it expects "positive growth across its businesses in 2010," as demand for flat screen TVs, mobile phones and laptop computers grows as a result of the ongoing economic recovery. Samsung is the world's largest manufacturer of flat screen televisions and ranks as the second only largest manufacturer of mobile phones, behind Finland's Nokia. |
