Nengajo for 2010 |
||||
New Years is perhaps more special to me personally thank Christmas is. I used to have fun making the New Years greeting cards called Nengajo when I was residing in Japan. These were often hand made and designed over three days prior to New Years. Though nowadays there is printers, design software packages that make designing cards much easier.
Nengajo are postcards which are sent every year to friends, family and business associates to express gratitude for the past year and forthcoming New Year. They are not sent to the recipients prior to the 1st, though Japan Post collect the cards prior to the 1st, store them and then deliver them on the 1st and there after. Nengajo have no religious connection to the card. If you have lost a family member, you do not send a nengajo during the New Year - as a sign of respect. The New Year holidays (oshougatsu - from the 1st to the 3rd) are very important to the Japanese. Nengajo are used to express gratitude, or maintain friendships on this special occasion. Nengajo designs usually are decorated with the year of the zodic animal (eto) as the design. As 2010 is the year of the tiger (tora), this years card designed and produced by myself - see below. I therefore leave you with sincerest wishes for 2010, a new year and a new decade. Ngaire
