Sustainable purchasing is all about taking environmental and social factors into account in purchasing decisions. It’s about looking at what our products are made of, where they come from, and who has made them. It’s also about looking at whether we need to make the purchase at all.
If we consider all these factors, we can make better choices about what we buy, who we buy it from, and how often we buy it. Ultimately, it is about minimising the environmental and social impacts of the purchases we make. The UK Government as part of their Sustainable Development Stategy (The Strategy) has committed that UK will be amongst the leaders in sustainable procurement across EU members states by 2009.
