‘Processes’ can either add value or take value away, in other words add 'waste' to the production of an item or provision of a service.
Figures vary dramatically, but very often, waste accounts for up to 30% of the operating costs of an organisation. Unfortunately, these inefficiencies have become increasingly accepted and acceptable and as a result organisations seek to compensate by ploughing their energies into increasing sales. Attempting to force more business though through an inefficient system makes no sense.
Waste elimination is one of the most effective ways to increase profitability in businesses, savings made go straight to where it counts: the bottom line.
To eliminate waste it is therefore important to fully understand exactly what waste is and where it can be found. Toyota, the Japanese automobile manufacturer, after years of work to remove waste identified seven wastes as the most prominent ones. There is another waste that is often overlooked and that is a failure to fully utilise employees. It is only by using their knowledge and ideas that the other seven wastes issues can really be addressed and reduced.
The seminar will include detail and examples of the seven wastes and attendees will be given a process to carry out a waste audit on their businesses or departments.
