Fred Edwards, Managing Director of myFD, explains how a strong Finance Director works alongside entrepreneurs and leaders to improve their decision-making and reduce the risk of taking bad decisions. As a result these entrepreneurs and leaders are far more likely to build successful companies.
This is particularly important, considering how few "small" companies actually manage the transition to "medium" size. Recent research from the Institute of Chartered Accountants highlights the defining characteristics of successful medium sized companies and how the management structure must evolve as the business grows.
The conundrum facing small businesses is that they need the commercial impact of a strong Finance Director well before they are able to afford or even attract them. There are a number of traditional options available although each has limitations; however, an innovative new approach enables ambitious leaders to have proper financial input at the earliest stage possible and thus significantly improve the chance of success for their company.
