Firms predict surge in LCD TV demand
Some of the world's largest liquid crystal display (LCD) screen producers are increasing their production levels, as they expect a surge in demand for LCD televisions during 2006.

According to Reuters, several of the world's leading LCD television producers are upping the number of units they produce to take advantage of what they believe to be a forthcoming growth in demand for LCD televisions.

Both LG.Philips, the world's biggest LCD television producer, and second placed Samsung are increasing their production of LCD screen televisions, the news agency said.

Many analysts are predicting that a drop in prices during the second quarter of the year will spark greater demand for the televisions during the second half of 2006.

High profile events such as this summer's World Cup in Germany can only serve to aid sales of plasma and flat screen televisions further.

DisplaySearch, an industry analyst, estimated that global shipments of LCD TV panels will shoot up to 42 million units this year, an increase of 55 per cent on 2005.

The news will be welcomed by LG.Philips, which analysts believe will announce poor profit figures soon.
