Do you prefer the grape to the grain? According to a recent study published in a medical journal this week, your preference for wine or beer could indicate a lot more about your personality and lifestyle than you’d imagine.
Published in the Danish review Ugeskrift for Laeger, the study was conducted over a 6 month period and involved detailed analysis of grocery receipts from almost 100 stores, representing a clear cross-section of shoppers. The study was triggered by a series of recent reports in The Danish press claiming that wine drinkers were less at risk of contracting certain diseases than beer drinkers.
It seems wine buyers were more likely to buy healthy foods that their beer-swilling shopmates. The typical winebuyer also stocked his or her trolley with olives, fresh fruit and veg, lean meats, and fish. The typical beer drinker by comparison favoured a diet of cold cuts, frozen dinners, crisps, sugary products, and fatty foods.
