Employers could protect their business by covering the cost of flu vaccines for their staff, according to the UK 's leading private healthcare provider.
Bupa is urging employers to provide vaccines for their staff free of charge – a service which would reduce absences from illness and could save money in the long-term.
Research has revealed that the flu jab can reduce sick leave by 43 per cent, thereby offering significant cost savings for businesses.
"Flu is highly infectious, particularly in the workplace and can cost a business dearly in lost productivity," said Martyn Anthony, head of specialist services at Bupa Wellness.
Mr Anthony revealed that up to 15 per cent of a company's workforce can be absent with flu over the winter months, with peaks generally occurring between the end of January and the start of February.
"With delivered flu vaccinations costing as little as £8.75 per employee, this is an inexpensive investment to help protect a company's productivity and keep staff working as best as they can."
