Health and Social Care Employer Forum

This month, Newbury College held its first ever Health and Social Care Employer Forum in Partnership with West Berkshire Care Association. Emily Chandler, Business Development Executive of Care, organised this event to offer a friendly, open forum to those within the Care Sector itself and provide a chance to network with like-minded people.

Emily Chandler commented, “This was an extremely successful event undertaken by Newbury College which has been made even more exciting by the opportunity to work in partnership with Berkshire Care Association. I hope that this is just the beginning of things to come between Newbury College and the Association, and look forward to working with them again soon!”

Dr Anne Murdoch, Newbury College Principal welcomed the guests at the event followed by a short introduction to the broad range of training Newbury College can offer to meet the needs of the employers in the adult and child care sectors by Emily Chandler. Emily added, “Not only do Newbury College offer National Vocational Qualifications, Train to Gain courses, Distance Learning and Apprenticeships but their solutions can be delivered in the workplace or at the venue of the employer’s choice by expert staff.”

The highlight of the forum was guest speaker Mark Horton who is the Executive Chairman of the Berkshire Care Association. His presentation was titled, ‘Personal experiences of Managing Risk’, and was almost an autobiography of his time managing a residential service where risk management went wrong. He reflected upon this personal story to give guidance and ultimately improve services where risk management is a factor.
