Work-Life Balance
Setting resolutions to help your Work-Life Balance
Striking the right work-life balance is important in helping you to achieve a rewarding 2008. There are so many things that you need to do when you own a small business and it is easy to think that you need to do all of them yourself.
Delegating
Delegating tasks to others is the fundamental solution to achieving a happy, healthy work-life balance. Once you have successfully delegated some of your work, you should have time to think about other aspects of your business and still have time for yourself.
Networking
Talking to other business people, making contacts and discussing ideas will rejuvenate you and your business. Networking with others who have similar interests will help you form mutually beneficial relationships with other business people and potential clients and/or customers. This can be done over the net or in person.
Check your products are working for you
Don’t waste time and money on something or someone who doesn’t fit. Not all suppliers or contractors will be suited to your business. If a business relationship is not working, stop using it. Check your products and techniques to see if they are still effective, if not adjust them or try something new.
Set goals
Make sure that your New Year's resolutions are attainable rather than idealistic dreams that could lead to frustration.
When setting goals incorporate an appropriate plan with specific criteria. This will help you evaluate your success.
Once you have worked out what you want to achieve, specify a strategy that you can use to accomplish this. For example "I will increase sales this month by 15% by offering a 5% off sale on all products. This sale will be advertised in the local paper."
At the end of the month it is then easy to identify whether you have been successful or not.
Give yourself some “me time”
If you have trouble finding time for yourself, regularly set aside time in your daily schedule and stick to it. Decide on something that you would like to do and do it! Walk the dog, have a nap, spend time with your children or go shopping, whatever you decide take time out from your work life. You will find that the daily half an hour/hour will pay off as you will be able to cope better with stress and be more productive in your work.
Replace or invest
Is there a piece of equipment in your office that is hindering your success or something that you need to make your working life easier? It could be an old photocopier that keeps jamming or maybe you need a new member of staff to ease your work load, make a New Year's resolution to stop putting off getting what you need.
