The Body Shop - An Inspirational Business
The Body Shop, founded in 1976, is an inspirational business due to the values it upholds and the worldwide campaigns that it has launched since its foundation.

As a business, it is against animal testing for cosmetic purposes, it supports fair trade, enforces International Human Rights Standards and aspires to be an environmentally responsible retailer. The Body Shop has also launched the ‘Stop Violence in the Home’ campaign, which hopes to encourage people to speak out and take action against violence in the home.

One of The Body Shop’s main values is that it believes that no animals should be harmed for the purposes of producing their products. The business emphasises that it has never tested or commissioned testing on animals and operates a fixed cut-off date preventing The Body Shop using ingredients that have been tested on animals after 31st December 1990.

The Body Shop’s Against Animal Testing campaigns have famously changed the use of animal testing for cosmetic purposes in the UK and in Europe. In 1996, The Body Shop presented the European Union with the largest petition against animal testing in history with over 4,000,000 signatures.

As well as the global and environmental values that The Body Shop sustains, their ‘Stop Violence in the Home’ campaign, launched over 10 years ago, aims to raise awareness and funds to help the often forgotten child victims of domestic violence. To discover more about the physical, emotional and social development impact of domestic violence on children, The Body Shop created a partnership with the United Nations and produced a joint report, ‘Behind Closed Doors- The Impact of Domestic Violence on Children.’
