Political Editor.co.uk by Miles Amoore

The political space on the Business In Berkshire network is undergoing a number of significant changes.

In addition to getting as many MPs from Berkshire involved in the project as possible, politicaleditor.co.uk will be adding a number of exciting features to the site.

Firstly, we are going to add a ‘forum’, which will act as a space where members of the public can debate, voice their opinions, and generally wax lyrical about the state of politics in Berkshire and the rest of the UK.

This addition aims to actively encourage public participation in politics, an issue that has recently hit the limelight with the release of the Power Report, which found that the public’s level of involvement in politics is rapidly declining.

Secondly, we will be running a bi-weekly question that we will pose to all Berkshire MPs in the hope of generating debate around some of the most burning issues of our time.

This is a chance for MPs to voice their opinions, inform their public about some of the essential beliefs that they hold, and encourage a more active participation from their constituents.

The question, along with some of the MPs’ answers to the given issue, will then be posed to the ‘forum’, where members of the public can discuss the matter further and, hopefully open up a dialogue with their local MP.

Thirdly, we will be adding a ‘campaign’ section, which allows activists and campaigners to publicise their current campaigns.

Fourthly, we will be looking for talented political writers to contribute to the ‘latest news’ and ‘comment’ sections of the site.

We do not offer breaking news but what we can provide is in depth analysis and comment into many of the local and national issues facing politics today.

And that’s not all. The site itself is set for a make-over. It will become neater and more appealing to the eye and will be managed on a daily basis, ensuring that MPs’ press releases are uploaded as soon as they are received.

Our aim is to encourage more participation – from MPs, from the public and from writers. In doing so, politicaleditor.co.uk hopes to bring politics back into the public sphere. This is democracy at its most essential level.
