CLA Game Fair

SALTER TO PROMOTE LABOUR’S SUPPORT
FOR SHOOTING AND ANGLING AT THE CLA GAME FAIR

Martin Salter, Labour MP for Reading West, and the Parliamentary Spokesman for Angling and Shooting, is to speak at this week’s Country Land and Business Association Game Fair on the support that Labour has given to both sports.

Mr Salter will be speaking at a seminar on Friday 28th July entitled There are no votes in Country Sports, on a panel alongside Nick Herbert, the Conservative MP for Arundel and Lib Dem MP Lembit Opik. He will be discussing what the government has achieved for shooters and anglers, and how shooting and angling representatives have influenced legislation. Examples include the exemption for gun dogs on the tail docking ban and measures to allow angling clubs and fishery owners to protect their stocks from cormorant predation. Mr Salter will also restate his own and the government’s commitment to country sports as evidenced in the publication of Labour’s Charters for Angling and Shooting.

Martin Salter said:

“I am always pleased to attend the CLA Game Fair. It is a wonderful day out, and a very important event in the country sports calendar. As the Parliamentary Spokesman for Angling and Shooting it is my job to highlight the good work and support coming from the government for these two sports, and I am proud to do so.

I have worked with the Sports Minister Richard Caborn, and the Ministers at DEFRA to ensure that the economic, conservation and social benefits from shooting and angling are valued and promoted. I will continue to stand up for Britain’s 3.5 million anglers and over a million shooters to ensure that their voices and concerns are heard at the highest level.”
