Martin Salter Supports Tilehurst Village Hall Appeal

On Saturday 22nd July Martin Salter MP for Reading West attended an Arts and Craft Fair at Tilehurst Village Hall to draw the raffle prizes.

There was also be an auction on the day with prizes including 2 tickets to watch a London Irish rugby match at the Madejski stadium.

The fair was organised to raise money for the Tilehurst Village Hall Appeal which was launched in March. Villagers are hoping to raise £10,000 to save their crumbling 19th century hall.

The village hall, in Victoria Road, Tilehurst, is used for toddlers' groups, dance and drama classes and a pensioners' group. However, the limestone archway is crumbling and needs to be replaced and the car park needs to be resurfaced because it is very uneven and needs to be safer for the elderly and disabled.

Ray Richens, Trustee and village hall committee chairman, said: "I think something as precious as that should remain in the village for the young and the old. It is part of the community and I am keen to see that we get the best possible use out of it and it adds to the community spirit.”

Martin Salter added: “I’m very keen to keep Tilehurst Village Hall as a vital community facility in the heart of West Reading”
