Goodbye Thamesbridge College

On Thursday 20th July at 3.00pm, Martin Salter MP will be visiting Thamesbridge College in Whitley to attend the final school assembly before the school becomes the John Madjeski Academy in time for the new autumn term.

Mr Salter will be speaking to pupils and staff, congratulating them on their hard work and wishing them well at the new Academy. Mr Salter is a governor of the Madjeski Academy.

Mr Salter will also be presenting free Youth Hostel Association Summer Camp vouchers to two students who have been picked out as ‘outstanding achievers’ this year. This initiative is a partnership project between YHA, the Big Lottery Fund and the YHA Do it for Real programme. The vouchers enable the student to have a whole week at a YHA camp with transport, meals, activities and goodie bags included. YHA camps are themed and the lucky students will have the choice of watersports, performing arts, dance and drama, photography and film, survival challenge, environmental action, football and rugby, and creative arts and crafts.

Mr Salter said, ‘I am delighted to present two young Thamesbridge students with the opportunity of a lifetime to get stuck into pastimes they really enjoy with professional instruction. These young people have been rewarded for their personal endeavours which proves that hard work does pay off. I’d also like to say a big well done to all the staff and pupils at Thamesbridge for their hard work and commitment. Next year is going to be exciting with the start of the new Madjetski Academy which will be a whole new challenge for staff, parents and students in the South Reading area.
