Wilson Congratulates Schools and Playgroup Success |
Rob Wilson, Member of Parliament for Reading East and member of the Education & Skills Select Committee, today congratulated Schools and playgroups that were commended as "outstanding" in today's Ofsted report.
Kendrick School, St John's C of E Primary School, Emmer Green Playclub, St Joseph's Holiday Club were all listed as "outstanding" in the Reading Borough part of Reading East constituency and Ambleside Early Excellence Centre in Woodley. Rob said "I am always pleased to hear of individual success stories in local schools and playgroups. I am delighted to learn of those schools and playgroups in my constituency which have been rated as outstanding. "I very much hope that other local schools will be inspired to raise their standards to match the best examples of those locally. I want to congratulate all the teachers, students and children who have worked so hard over the past year." "I hope this will encourage more local schools to look at the benefits of becoming independent Trust Schools," he concluded. However, Mr Wilson did stike a note of caution: "Too many schools in our area are simply are not good enough. According to the Government's inspection body Ofsted, whose inspection regime is less rigourous now than it was, over half of secondary schools are not good enough! "Teachers are working hard but they are dogged by targets and initiatives that stop them focusing on teaching. We need to focus on improved discipline and streaming and setting in schools, so that more children get the education they deserve." The Ofsted Report finds 13 per cent of secondary schools are "inadequate" and 38 per cent are merely "satisfactory". The report points to a wide gap between the best and worst schools. |
