Small business champions to be announced at national ceremony
Six small businesses around the UK are national finalists in the British Small Business Champions (BSBC) Awards 2008, run by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).

One winner will be announced as national champion on Friday, November 21, winning a cash prize of £10,000 to spend on their business.

The national finalists are:

  • Castle Fine Arts Foundry Ltd, Oswestry

  • Eribe Knitwear Design, Galashiels

  • Lift-Rite Engineering Services Ltd. Wallsend

  • Fruit for the Office Ltd, Romford

  • The Venus Company, Totness

  • Core Systems (NI) Ltd. Belfast

  • Founded by the FSB in 2002, the BSBC Awards is the only national awards scheme solely for small businesses and was launched at Number 10 Downing Street.

Entrepreneur Carol Undy, who led the judging panel, said:

“As always, BSBC 2008 has attracted a high number of very high calibre entries. The judges deliberated long and hard to select the six national finalists and even longer and harder to find the national winner.”

This year, there are two new categories for BSBC 2008, chosen by the FSB to encourage the up and coming generation of UK small businesses. These are: Most Promising New Business and Young Entrepreneur. The winners of these will also be announced on Friday and each will win £1,000.

The national awards evening is on Friday 21 November, in central London, compered by Fiona Armstrong. Geoff Burch, whose television series “All Over the Shop” is currently being shown on BBC TV, is the speaker and Graham Barnard, owner of The Happy Hutch Company BSBC national champion 2007 will announce this year's winner.
