East Berkshire FSB new chair Mary Flavelle |
East Berkshire FSB new chair, business networking queen Mary Flavelle
Yesterday evening, 23rd October 2008 saw the launch of a new era for East Berkshire FSB. Mary Flavelle was elected as chair of the branch for 2008 –09. Mary joined the FSB last year after being approached by Jon Davey, past chair and current communications representative, who knew Mary from her days at the chamber where she had made the difference and knew she was the perfect woman to rekindle the East Berkshire FSB. “We had a vacancy on the committee for a member to organise events in East Berkshire so I asked Mary if she would consider joining us and boy, what a difference she has made. This year she has experimented with a range of different events which have been a real success many of which were “sold out”. Those that worked well we’ll be keeping for 2008-9. Also elected to the committee Asa Cunniff who will take on the role of event organising. Mark May, chair for 2006-08 stood down after his 2 year stint in the job. It was decided when Mark May took on the role that we would keep the committee buoyant by changing chair every 2 years. Mark May will become vice chair along with Richard Knight, an outdoor advertising guru, who joined us last year. Peter West has thankfully stayed on as secretary! Margaret Corridan is in her 5th year as treasurer and what an excellent job they both do to keep the admin on track, freeing the rest of us up. Bala Subramanian, new in 2008, formally takes on the policy role and two new recruits will add their own bit of magic to the party to ensure our capacity to make things happen in East Berkshire for small businesses is ensured. David Knowles-Leak brings his double barreled training and coaching credentials to the table to ensure harmony amongst the troops and we have focus on our chosen missions. And John Cassidy will be on hand to record proceedings for posterity. A professional photographer he has photographed top celebrities, politicians and business icons along the way and will ensure Mary and the rest of the committee are digitally captured, providing the media with the all important photos they need to maximize our coverage in 2008-09. With Jon Davey working with Karen to balance the FSB message with the local influence, 2008-09 promises to be a top year for East Berkshire! Mary said “I have enjoyed my time on the committee immensely over the past year. I became to realise just how much the FSB does for its members and what an important organisation the FSB really is. I am both excited and enthusiastic about the role of Chair of the branch. We have a strong committee in East Berkshire and it is the combined efforts of everyone that has seen the branch go from strength to strength. I look forward to building strong relationship with the key decision makers in East Berkshire but also with our members. If there is anything you would like to discuss with me please contact me via the regional office.” If you would like to know more about the FSB and membership then please contact Karen Durcan, FSB Thames Valley Regional Organiser on 0118 945 6848, ro.thamesvalley @ fsb.org.uk . |
